A Journey: With Hardship Comes Ease

“I cannot fathom a way out of this problem.”

“Why is Allah not hearing my prayers?”

We tend to ponder over such thoughts when we are facing hardships that seem insurmountable.

Do we choose to run away in order to avoid facing our fears or stand our ground and take responsibility and accountability for what has transpired?

There are legitimate reasons to take a break in order to gain a wider perspective. Currently, we are grappling with readjusting to a new normal as the world emerges stronger from the pandemic, which has gripped every facet of our lives for the past two years and more with damaging reverberations for the foreseeable future.

As such, our mental wellness has shifted centrestage. At times, in order to cope with our surroundings we might choose to travel physically to a nearby island or some exotic country halfway across the globe. And, as a form of dealing with hardship we might choose to indulge in a spiritual journey that would enrich our souls and help us grow and mature through trying experiences.

Let’s keep the following in mind: One, our problems are never too trivial when compared to others. From waking up for fajr, preparing for an exam or dealing with trauma of whatever magnitude. Next, each of us has different ways of coping with our challenges. What works for you might not necessarily be apt for your partner or best friend.

As a start, the following pathway is as good as any: Consciously choose to move onward and forward while surrendering to God’s will. And, most importantly, show up for yourself by first and foremost practising kindness with yourself before being there for others.

“O my dear son! Establish prayer, encourage what is good and forbid what is evil, and endure patiently whatever befalls you. Surely this is a resolve to aspire to.

[Surah Luqman, 31:17]

Therefore, this June and July let us connect with our world and selves and experience how Allah eases our hardships in this world and the hereafter. Our journey together would be a lot easier when we choose to be there for ourselves and each other. #WithHardshipComesEase

Let’s pray and hope this will bring more knowledge and understanding to us. I am now a pensioner from having received a salary each month for so long is so scary. Now receiving very little each month and considering how to manage to still continue paying your bills in full as a single person. Hoping that Allah sends ease soon, in sha Allah.
